This project presents work tools that are made of
blankets. Each blanket 'forces' to sleep in a certain form.
The transformation of work tools to blankets is
both material and functional: The tools changed from their original hard and
stiff form, which allows them to be used sometimes even as weapons, into soft
objects, connecting with warmth and familiarity.
The history of crafting skills reminds us of the
gendered nature of the tools: On the one hand, these tools, made for domestic
practices and traditionally associated with manhood, and on the other hand they
are stitched, a craft that traditionally considered as feminine.
Tools are considered inferior and boring- still
life objects, and therefore almost absent from the fine-art discourse. In
contrast, this project attempts to raise the status of those everyday use tools.
