Cracked Body

2016

In this exhibition, I examine the ability of the human body to be like a machine, to implement actions that repeat themselves mechanically and without a personal touch, seemingly. This aim was doomed from the beginning, so the body was a faulty machine.

As a result of a long illness, I could not paint. For me, the lack of painting was like a phantom pain. My paintings became more systematic, with patterns, as a result of my boredom and the obsessiveness during the illness. Creating was the way for me to cope with the illness and with the healing from it.

The images in the exhibition relate to the body in several ways. The undergarments are the most close-fitting to the body, but they isolated from the body and hover in space. The working tools are similar to body organs, as if they were possible spare parts of the body. The tools are related to construction and healing, and also to pain and injury.
